I was helping a friend with a computer problem and we noticed that it was missing system restore!! I tried to open it from the command prompt using 'rstrui.exe' but even that did not work. It has windows vista. Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

You have not mentioned which Windows you are using. Also when you tried the rstrui command, what message you got. It is possible the system restore is turned off in your system. Try this:

1. Open System by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking System.
2. In the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.
Restart the computer.
