I started getting these error messages about a week ago. When I try to open a personal folder, I get a popup Windows Explorer has stopped working. Windows is searching for a solution. The only thing you can click on is cancel. It's crazy. Can someone help me fix it?

The solution to your issue is listed here at the link http://www.askiyogi.com/windows/2861.html which has a similar question. Also try using System File Checker to scan your OS for missing/corrupt files, complete these steps:

1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. In the results area, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. You will be prompted to type the password for an administrator account. Click Continue if you are the administrator or type the administrator password. Then, click Continue.
3. At the command prompt, type Sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.
