Click Start, then right click any blank space on the start menu and left click Properties. Select the Start Menu tab at the top, click Customize midway down on the right and then click the advanced tab at the top and see if the Control Panel is selected for Don't Display This Item. Select the display option from here and click ok.

I have a fairly new win7 laptop. Sometimes when I start it, there’s this white rectangle at the top left of my desktop that I cannot get rid of. Right click does nothing, but it goes away after some time for no apparent reason. A restart always gets rid of it. Thanks for any help!
