The update icon may be hidden, to see all icons:

• Right-click the Notification Area and select "Properties".
• With the Taskbar Tab open, untick the checkbox labelled "Hide Inactive Icons".
• Click "OK" to save the change and exit the properties window. Now you will be able to see all icons.

Regards updates, you can check the current settings from the Control Panel.

I installed SP1 on my windows 7 computer, rebooted it as I was asked to do so and it crashed. I have tried to restore it but it is still dead. I feel like getting back to XP.. unless there's a way to uninstall SP1 or do whatever to fix this problem.
