The answer to a similar query as posted by you is here at http://www.askiyogi.com/windows/18861.html Please follow all the steps mentioned in this link as below:
• Download and run the tool for the edition of Vista you are running from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-is-the-System-Update-Readiness-Tool and attempt to install the update again.
Note: To check the edition, click ‘Start’, right click ‘Computer’ and select ‘Properties’.
• If the updates still do not work, you would need to insert a Windows Vista DVD in the disk drive and perform an upgrade. When you get an option to select whether you want to “Go online to obtain the latest updates for installation (recommended)” click on it.
