How can I stop these annoying pop-ups? I am using Mozilla Firefox on a Windows XP computer. My pop-up blocker settings say that no pop-ups are allowed. However every couple of minutes, my computer freezes up and a annoying pop-up comes. Can anyone help me?

You have not mentioned the details of these popups(about what they say). But they seem like spyware. Multiple spyware removal software are available on the internet. Two good antispyware programs that come to my mind are Spybot: Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes(provides almost overall protection). They are available at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/ and http://www.malwarebytes.org respectively
Download one of them and install it. Then run a full scan in safe mode(tap the f8 key the moment you start the computer to get into safe mode) after updating the software. It should help you.

Windows XP won't let me access the internet anymore as it believes my computer is infected. I run my McAfee virus scan and it detects nothing. Only one of the user accounts on my computer is affected. The pop-up windows want me to "register" XP Security but I am reluctant to do so. It does a "scan" and shows me 27 viruses. None of these are found when I run the McAfee scan. Any thoughts?
