As per your situation, if the regular update process (automatic notification of updates) is not working, there may be some issues that can usually be caused by other applications running in the background. To stop these, open 'msconfig'(type it in the start-search field), go to the 'startup' tab, click disable all. Now, go to the 'services' tab, check the box that reads 'hide all microsoft services' and click 'disable all'. Now, put a check mark next to any startup programs or services associated with Adobe, click ok and restart the system. Once you install the update, open 'msconfig' again, on the general tab, select 'normal startup', click ok and restart again to enable everything you had disabled.
