This error message occurs due to the corrupt .Net Framework installation on the computer.
We need to follow these steps

Repair the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 installation .
To do so
• Go to Control Panel ->go to Add Remove Programs (Programs and Features in windows VIsta)
• In currently installed Programs click on Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and click on Change and remove.
• Click on Repair and click rest . Follow the instructions to complete Repair.

If Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed then install it on the computer from the Link given below
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=19

Restart the computer and try to install MS Office again.
