This might be happening due to the following reasons

• The 3rd party addins in MSWord.
• The corruption of normal.dot file

We can try these steps in order to resolve the problem.
• Click on Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Press and hold the CTRL key, and click on MS Word.
Or Click on Start->run and type winword.exe /safe and open the MS Word in safe mode.
• Disable the add ins and try to open Msword again.
• Else Open windows search and search for normal.dot file and delete it .
• Restart the computer and
• Try to reopen Msword.
