Recently I upgraded to Windows Media Player 11 on my Windows Vista-based computer. On opening the media player, the error message "To finish installing Windows Media Player, restart your computer and then log on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group" is displayed. Can you tell the reason for this error?

Follow the instructions to resolve the Error: “To finish installing Windows Media Player, restart your computer and then log on as an administrator”:

Step 1-Click on ‘Start’ and then click on ‘Run’.
Step 2-Now type ‘Regedit’ and then press ‘Enter’ key.
Step 3-Find location of the following key:
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>MediaPlayer>Set-up administratos group’
Step 4-On the right side pane find the value ‘InstallResult’.
Step 5-Doubleclick on the value and if the current is ‘0xD2AF9’ or ‘0xC00D2AFB’.
Step 6-Then change it to ‘0×0’.
Step 7-Now close the registry editor.
Step 8-Restart the PC.
Step 9-Next try to play a file in Windows Media Player.
