Yes, WMP11 plays DVD and there should be no issues otherwise. You have not mentioned if you are getting any error message? I would also advise you to install codecs available online and see if it helps you.

1. Got to start >> click on My Computer. Check if the CD/DVD drive icon is present.
2. Go to start >> go to run > type devmgmt.msc and click on OK
3. Check if there is a yellow bang next to the CD/DVD drive in the device manager window that comes up.
4. If the CD/DVD drive is not present in the Windows Explorer and there is a bang next to the CD/DVD drive in device manager, then we will have to modify a registry entry.
5. Go to Start > click on run > type regedit and click on OK
6. Take a backup of the registry before proceeding to the next step. You can do that by clicking on File >> Export. Select the location to which you want to save the backup and then save it.
7. Find the following registry entry at the given location.
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
8. On the right hand pane, delete the Upper Filters and the Lower Filters.
9. Exit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
10. Please check if the CD/DVD drive is being recognized by Windows.
11. If the above steps do not work, go to start >> run > type devmgmt.msc and click on OK
12. Uninstall the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer.
13. If that does not help, do a system restore to the date when the CD/DVD drive was working fine. You can do that from Start >> Search >> System Restore
