I have a Sony VAIO CW2 series laptop. It is known to overheat easily. I was never really bothered by it before since it takes several hours for it to overheat. Recently it only takes a few minutes for that to happen. I tried Sony support website and was told that a BIOS update should solve the problem. I did that but still dealing with constant overheats. Could this be a physical problem? The laptop is allright except for speakers. It no longer works but headphones are fine. Can this be fixed or do I have to trash it? Model is VPCCW27FX/B. When it overheats nvida control centers tells me that there is a problem with the video card and then the laptop restarts.

I'm going crazy trying to find a simple system for a friend, what with the proliferation of 'categories'(notebook, netbook, tablet, iPad, iPod) these days. What I'm looking for is very straightforward: 1) High speed, consistent wireless (N) streaming given a pre-existing fiber-to-wireless-router connection and high-speed cable modem. 2) A machine I can set up for him so when he turns it on it will go directly to the web. 3) Quality sound and graphics (web) with a display between 10" and 13" (for portability and price); not concerned about battery life. 4) Fast machine 5) Reasonable price <= $650. 6) 3G/4G ... not sure. He doesn't have a cell phone and I'm not sure if this is a feature that would be used/necessary when visiting family. I've looked at netbooks, tablets, small laptops and my head is spinning. I used to be a pro but got CNS Lyme disease in 2007 and now my head just can't handle more than 15 minutes of concentration, not to mention that I completely forget everything I've come across 15 minutes after leaving. My daughter has a Toshiba Satellite L305d/s5974 laptop. We are have a problem with the power supply. Will not charge or run. Is there a dock, media cable, port replicator or any device that can use an alternate port to power and/no charge the laptop. Need a workaround rather than another expensive repair. Please help!
