When there is a virus attack on my laptop, I use an antivirus program to find and remove the infected files. But someone has recommended me to use McAfee Avert Stinger. Is it fine to use Stinger along with my security application?

Yes, you can use Stinger as it does not require any installation. What I would advise you is to temporarily disable the main AV software that you have in your system so that Stinger does not conflict with it and the operation is smooth and the purpose is solved.
