If you get no display on the laptop at all when you start it, make sure it is not an issue with the display card by connecting an external monitor to it. If it works, backup all crucial data.
If the laptop is still under warranty, contact Sony and have a technician check it for you.
Some other things that I would try are:
1. Remove the battery, place it back after about 30 seconds and try to restart.
2. Try using the power cord directly unless you already have.
3. If you hear 3 beeps when you start the computer, reseat the RAM modules.
4. Remove the CMOS battery (looks like a coin) and place it back in after about 30 seconds.
Warning: Make sure the laptop is not plugged in while you open it up. If you are not comfortable performing these steps yourself, you should get a technician to help you.
Hope it helps.
