How To Install Linux On a IBM Laptop? I have a T42 IBM laptop without a hard drive or battery, but it still turns on and I can used the Access IBM button. I also have a fairly new back up hard drive that I guess might be helpful to use as the hard drive of my new IBM T42.
My question is: "Is there any possible way to download and run any operating system (preferably linux) on my IBM T42 that doesn't have any hard drive?"
If I can't do it would I be able to buy another hard drive? I hope some genius can figure out how to install linux on my pc. (Oh and I have other pc's. So I can download linux on the back up hard drive with another pc)

Your computer BIOS should support booting from an external USB device then you can install Linux on the external HDD. If no, then you will have to install a compatible HDD in your system and then install Linux. For you system model, you can get support options from here at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-55386
