When I click on some links in Internet Explorer 8, error message "Internet Explorer encountered a problem and must shut down" is displayed. How can I fix this?

It seems that we would have to optimize the Internet Explorer. Please try these steps to resolve the issue.

a) Open Internet Explorer without add-ins. To do so:
o Click on Start
o Click on Run
o Type iexplore.exe –extoff and click on ok
o Check if the browser is still freezing
b) If the browser does not freeze or hangs with the add-ins disabled, then:
o Click on Start
o Click on run
o Type inetcpl.cpl and click on ok
o Click on the Programs Tab and then click on Manage add-ons
o Disable the unwanted add-ins and save changes
o Restart the browser and try again
c) If that does not help, reset the Internet Explorer:
Note: Doing this, you will lose all the save passwords on the browser and the Browsing History and the Cookies. Do this only if you remember all the passwords.
xiii. Open Internet Explorer
xiv. Click on Tools
xv. Click on Internet Options
xvi. Click on the Advanced Tab
xvii. Click on Reset at the bottom right
xviii. When prompted for confirmation, click reset again
Re-open the browser and check if the issue still exists
d) Clear the temp folders. To do so, follow these steps:
o Click Start->Click Run->Type Temp and click on OK->Delete all file
o Click Start->Click Run->Type %Temp% and click on OK->Delete all files
o Click Start->Click Run->Type Prefetch and click on OK->Delete all files
e) Do a disk cleanup
f) Disable the security software and try again
g) If these do not help, please uninstall the Internet Explorer 8 and re-install it.
