In this case please follow these steps

Reset the Internet Explorer.
Note: Doing this, you will lose all the save passwords on the browser and the Browsing History and the Cookies. Do this only if you remember all the passwords.

a) Click on start ->Click on run and type inetcpl.cpl
b) Click on
c) It will open internet Properties
d) Click on the Advanced Tab
e) Click on Reset at the bottom right
f) When prompted for confirmation, click reset again
g) Close the Browser
h) Open the Internet Explorer

Now try to open Internet explorer and check if the multiple tabs are gone or not.
It will also ask you to set a homepage. Go for the desired one

Also clear the temp Folders. This will help you to free up some space from the harddrive

a) Start >> Run >> type Temp and click on OK. Delete all the files
b) Start >> Run >> %temp% and click on OK. Delete all the files
c) Start >> Run >> Prefetch and click on OK. Delete all the files
