Please follow these steps:

(a) Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.
(b) Click the Programs tab, and then click Make default.
(c) Click OK, and then close Internet Explorer.

I am unable to install IE9 ,at point of installation it says installing necessary updates and proceeds to do so. Then it reports failed to install .... (too fast for me to read screen) When I restart I still have IE8. I checked my Windows Updates and found that multiple records of KB971029 failing to install. There is an error 80070643. I cannot open a new tab in Internet Explorer 8. On opening a new tab, the browser hangs. On debgugging the error "Unhandled exception at 0x026add99 in iexplore.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x027912e4" was displayed. Please help me. Thanks.
