Here is the way you can see amount of remaining data while using internet for Verizon Wireless network:

The estimated amount of data you have remaining on your data plan is listed under "Verizon Wireless" in the network menu when you're connected to the network. Contact Verizon to get information about the exact amount of data you've Manage data notifications (Verizon only)

If you're using Verizon Wireless, you'll see notifications for the following situations:
• You have less than 30 minutes before your data expires.
• You have less than 50 MB of data left.
• You’re out of data.

There are many 3rd party applications that will help you to monitor bandwidth usage as per adapter, time, date etc. One of the many applications that I used was Free meter.
