It’s a little difficult to explain. It’s not necessarily “selecting” pictures and text in firefox. It’s similar to what the tab key does. Whenever I click on a random spot on the page, a blinking | appears, as if it was going to let me start typing something.

It may be due to some addon. Start Firefox in Safe mode by pressing the Shift key while launching the Firefox and then check, here in safe mode if this does not happen, the issue is due to an addon. Please try to identify the addon and then uninstall it. In the same Safe mode dialogue box, you can reset preferences. To reset your user preferences, click to put a check mark by Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults. You can also try to press F7 key when it happens. It enables/disables Caret Browsing which allows users to select arbitrary content with the keyboard and move through content as if inside a read-only editor. This allows copying arbitrary pieces of text to the clipboard.
