How to fix error “filename.exe is not a valid Win32 application”, when trying to run any .exe file

Reason

Error: “filename.exe is not a valid Win32 application” when the .exe file association in the registry is corrupt. It is caused by SirCam virus.

Follow the instructions to fix error: “filename.exe is not a valid Win32 application”, when trying to run any .exe file:

Step 1-Click on ‘Start’ button, and then click on ‘Run’ and type ‘cmd’. Type the following commands one by one:

  1. cd\windows
  2. regedit

Step 2-If Registry Editor opens successfully, then navigate to the following key: ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ exefile \ shell \ open \ command’

Step 3- In the right pane, double-click on the (default) value Step 4-Now, delete all the current value data, and then type: “%1″ %* (i.e., quote-percent-one-double quote-space-percent-asterisk.)

Step 4-Navigate to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe

Step 5-Go to the right-pane and then set (default) to .exe file.

Step 6-Exit the ‘Registry Editor’ now.

Footnotes:

The cause of this is usually a result of the installer not fully downloaded. Because the installer doesn’t have a complete file, this error will occur preventing you from installing it.
