If the Flash Drive gets detected but does not show itself in the Windows Explorer, then try these steps:
a) Right Click on my Computer (or Computer in case of Windows Vista/7)
b) Click on Manage
c) On the menu on the left, select Disk Management
d) Now check if the Flash Drive is listed here.
e) If it is detected, right click on it and select “ Change Drive Letter”
f) Select a different drive letter for the Flash Drive than the existing one.
g) Open Windows Explorer and check if it is getting detected or not. You may have to unplug and replug the Flash Drive.
If it is still not getting detected, then try these steps:
a) If you do not have anything important in the Flash Drive, then try to re-format it from the Disk Management Console.
b) Try to plug it into a known working USB Port
c) Restart the computer with the Flash Drive plugged in
d) Check if the Flash Drive is working on another computer
e) Uninstall the USB Controllers from Device Manager. In order to do that:
• Go to start
• Click on run
• Type devmgmt.msc and click on OK
• Look for USB Controllers in Device Manager
• Right click on it and click on uninstall
• Restart the computer and check if it helps
f) Restart the computer in Safe Mode and check if the Flash Drive is getting detected there. To go to safe mode, try these steps:
• Turn on the computer
• When you see the OEM screen, keep tapping the F8 key on it.
• You will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu.
• Select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys and hit enter
• If you are prompted to select the Operating System, just hit enter
• Login to the user account and check if the Flash Drive is detected in the Windows Explorer.
• If it does, we will do a clean boot
• Click on Start
• Click on run
• Type msconfig and hit enter
• On the System Configuration window, click on the startup tab
• Click on disable all at the bottom right
• Now click on the services tab on the top
• Ensure that you have a check mark in the box “Hide All Microsoft Services”.
• Click on disable all at the bottom right
• Save changes and restart the computer in the normal mode
• Check if the flash drive is detected now
