My hard drive is taking more space; it says it uses 420 GB when actually it uses only 324 GB. And I also checked my shadow-storage and it says it doesn't use any and only 64GB allocated for it, so what could it be? Help is appreciated.

The wrong reporting of the hard drive usage may be due to many reasons. A thorough analysis of the contents of the hard drive may be required. You have not mentioned where did you get the data of 420 and 324GB from? Did you check the properties of drive or where? It’s good to know that you have checked the shadow volume size. Please do the following:

(a) Run a complete scan of your system using antivirus and anti spyware software after updating it.
(b) Uninstall any programs that you do not use anymore.
(c) Check how much space the System restore is consuming.
(d) Check the page file settings.
(e) Use a third party application like Freetreesize from JAM software to see size of each and every item in your hard disk, this will give you a very good idea what’s eating up the space.
