When I plug in a Flash drive to my new Windows 7-based laptop, it is not recognized by the computer. It works well with my old desktop that has service pack 3 of Windows XP.

First please make sure the drive is working and you can see a power LED in the drive, do you hear some sound from the drive? Did you try this drive in another port of the computer or another machine? Is your computer under corporate environment where access to USB devices is restricted? Also make sure Service Pack 1 is installed in your system and the computer is up-to-date.

Try Unplug ALL USB devices. Open Device Manager. View, Show Hidden Devices. Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers. Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Reboot Twice and also try to update your BIOS.
