The best way to provide security to the router is to provide a strong password. You have not given the router details else I would have given strong password. Anyways, you can try these:

(a) Implement MAC ID restriction.
(b) Enable IP to administer router.
(c) Provide strong Router as well as Wifi password.
(d) Hide SSID if possible.

I'm using Vista Home Basic.I've been using an external WD hard drive for storage and it's been fine until today. All of a sudden it has disappeared. At microsoft I used the fix it tool and it says reinstalling the driver might fix - I say yes - Device driver comes up saying installed successfully - but the drive starts working continually until I unplug the usb or turn off.
