Recently purchased an HP Officejet 4500 Desktop printer/fax/scanner. I programmed the fax to auto answer/connect after 2 rings. It won’t connect automatically, regardless of the number of rings. I have to be home when a fax is sent to me, in order to manually push the green start button to connect and receive. Any suggestions as to what I did wrong??

First please check if the phone line has internet and if you are using a filter. If there is a parallel ring phone or an answering machine, remove it. Check this setting as well, Go to the Fax setup:

1. Select distinctive rings to all rings.
2. Turn off fax error correction
3. Set fax speed to the lowest

We have UPS in-built invertor at home. There is another UPS which is connected to my PC. Many times while using high voltage electronic items, we keep our invertor switched off. So to provide back up at those times, we have kept this second UPS. This set up is there since last 2 yrs and we didnt face any problem whatsoever. But nowadays what is happenning is like many times current goes off for fraction of a second and as a result of which my PC turned off by itself. But when current goes off normally, no harm is done on PC and it continues working. Now I dont know whats wrong there or is it there something wrong with UPS or invertor?
