You have not mentioned when you try to login to 192.168.1.1 what error you get. Is the page not opening or you are getting login errors. Its quite possible that after the firmware upgrade, the settings inside the router needs to be set according to the ISP as after upgrade all settings get back to defaults. Normally you should be able to login to the router and do the necessary changes. I will advice you some steps here:
(a) The router must have a reset hole; you should try to hard reset the router.
(b) Connect to the router through the Ethernet cable direct connection.
(c) As per http://www.zoomtel.com/documentation/adsl/5590_QuickStart_Eng.pdf you have to install the software to configure the modem, so if you have a software cd, please use it to install the software.
(d) Instead if 192.168.1.1 try 10.0.0.1 IP and see if it works.
(e) Use Username: admin, password: zoomadsl
(f) Once logged in, you should call up your ISP and set the modem as per the connection you have.
