I have just changed from Vista Home to Windows 7 Professional on my laptop. The laptop will access the internet with a wired connection only. It now indicates there are no wireless networks to join even though my is one of 50 in the area. I asked Windows to diagnose the problem but it has no suggestions.

The answer to a similar query as posted by you is here at http://www.askiyogi.com/connecting-computers-networking/3896.html reproduced below for you Please follow all the steps mentioned in this link.

(A) Click on the wireless triangular icon in the system tray next to time and see if the window popup showing all the available networks, if yes, select your network and supply with credentials.
(B) If it does not show any networks, check for wireless switch present in the laptop, an associated utility will also be there, if not, install it from the manufacturers website. This utility will tell you if the system wireless is powered up.
(C) Click Start and in search box type Device manager… select device manager from search results above and the in the window that opens up, look for network adapters and under it see if the wireless card is installed properly, any yellow/red mark is an issue and needs to be resolved. Wireless drivers compatible with Win7 may have to be downloaded and installed. Check your system manufacturers website for this.
(D) If multiple wireless utility software is installed in the system, just keep one.
(E) Make sure the wireless signal strength is enough.
(F) Check for firewall connection if it is blocking any wireless connection.
