My qwest router's wireless crapped but it still works hardwired. So I came up with the idea of plugging in an ethernet cable to my Netgear WAP and yesterday the wifi was working just fine, but now, not so much.

I am not very sure what do you mean by ‘not so much’? Do you mean it is some time working and some time not? Well, please try the following steps:
(a) Please reseat all the cable connections, if possible try swapping with a good cable.
(b) Reset the settings of the Netgear Router.
(c) If you can update the Routers firmware, it will be good.
(d) See if the modem provides the IP address to the router.
(e) If possible use a static IP in the Router.
